Dos jóvenes de San Francisco, uno por cimiento y otro por adoption, fueron parte de dos películas nominated a los Premios Oscar: se trata de los films Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Sea Beast, para las cuales trabajaron Mariano Rodríguez Calvo “Casper” y Camila Demarchirespectively, quienes son pareja y hoy viven en Canadá.
Demarchi worked as a production assistant: his functions were varied and had to do with organizing activities for the whole team, even recording notes of what was talked about in meetings with the director of the film to put it in common with the rest of the team . Rodríguez Calvo, por su parte, se encargó de animar personajes en 3D, para darles toques de realidad.
A partir de las nominationaciones, los jóvenes dialogaron con El Periódico acerca del trabajo realizado, así como su actualidad laboral que los mantiente cerca de proyectos importantes de la industria del cine.
Born in San Francisco, Demarchi lived in our city until the age of 18, when he moved to Córdoba to study the Bachelor of Theater at the National University of Córdoba. When he received, en septiembre de 2019, he returned to our city where he spent a few weeks antes de partir para Canada.

Luego, le apareció la oportunidad de viajar a Hong Kong para ser parte de otro film. Allí estuvo trabajando alrededor de 7 meses, viviendo una experiencia “única e inolvidable”, según describió.

What did the job consist of? How was the experience?
camila: I entered this project as a Production Assistant. Súper asustada porque era la primera vez que realizaba un trabajo de este estilo, encima 100% en inglés, donde cada palabra que pronunciaban para mi era desconocida. Si bien mi inglés es bastante avanzado, cuando te encontrás con terminos más técnicos y específicos que desconocés, es tremendo. La primera semana la sufrí bastante, pero por suerte tuve a Marian ayudándome un montón. Él también trabaja en este mundo del cine solo que con unos cuantos años más de experiencia encima. Así que fue y es aún hoy también un gran pilar para mí.

¿En qué autória la formationa en el trabajo que desempeñan?
camila: Mi formación profesional es en el amíto del teatro. Y si bien en este momento no me estoy dedicando specificado al teatro, sí creo que mi formationa me ha brindado muchas herramientas para poder ocupar el lugar que tengo hoy. De todas formas, como en cualquier trabajo creo, las primeras semanas fueron de mucho training, donde trabajé muy de cerca con compañeros que me fueron enseñaando todo y guando para poder desempeñar de la mejor manera posible el role de PA y poder cumplir con los objectives que el trabajo demanda
Mariano: En mi caso, elegí y me gradué en la carrera de Cine y Video en La Metro, en Córdoba. Pero estaba enfocada en producciones de Live action, en la cual ejercí unos años como director de Fotografia. ¿Cómo se enteraron que la película había sido nominated a los Premios Oscar y qué sintieron?
camila: I entered an email from Sony announcing that The Sea Beast was nominated as the best animation film. Fue una alegría muy grande. Siento que simaleno no puedo ser muy objective, porque le tengo un cariño muy especial a esta película, pero me llena de felicidad y orgullo saber que todo el trabajo que hay detrás de The Sea Beast este siendo recognised.
Mariano: Era un día de trabajo normal y veo en Instagram que la cuenta de Marvel publicó la nomination de Black Panther junto con las otras listas. También vi que el chat del trabajo se llenó de notificaciones y eran las felicaciones y los saludos de todo el equipo. Como dije hace unos días, ésto no es más que una reaffirmación de que el camino que he recorrido hasta ahora, era y es el correcto a pesar de los obstacles. Y por sobre todas las cosas, feliz con el trabajo que tengo, feliz con la vida que llevo y feliz con la gente que me rodea. Cuando uno encuentra el equilibrio perfecto en la vida, todo lo bueno viene solo, por consequencia.
What are your plans for the future?
camila: Currently I am working at Sony Pictures Imageworks, not as a Production Assistant, but as a VFX Production Coordinator. Now I’m working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, which is a very big challenge that is a project and a new position with more responsibilities, but I’m very happy and with much desire to keep growing and learning about this world. The animation and VFX are incredible. Me gustaría similare poder volver a darle un poco de lugar al teatro en mi vida, es algo que no quisiera abandonar por completo, así que espero que en algún momento o de alguna manera pueda generar un balance entre estos dos mundos que me encantan y me hacen feliz
Mariano: Por mi lado, primero que todo, seguir disfrutando de la vida. Enjoy the process and present each project.
