El Banco Mundial advirtió que la alta inflation afecta el crecimiento económico de la Argentina

Argentina will grow 2% this year and the next year in a complex context for capital controls and high inflation that will be difficult to reduce while the government must maintain competitive exchange rates and reduce energy subsidies.

Así lo subrayó un informe difundido hoy del Banco Mundial sobre las Prospectivas Económicas Globales, que le dedicó algunos concepts a la difícil situación del país.

El reporte subraya que la fuerte inflation y los controles de precios complican el crecimiento económico de la Argentina.

There is a forecast, in tune with the Government, that the PBI will grow by 2% this year and a second time in 2024, tras “un nivel más fuerte de lo esperado, del 5.2 per cento el año pasado”, tal como lo destacó días atrás el ministro de Economía, Sergio Massa.

“La deceleración en el crecimiento reflects vientos en contra externos y restrictions a la actividad interna relacionados con el alto inflationario”, sostuvo el documento de la entity que preside David Malpass.

The weakening of the external demand will affect the growth of exports, the key to sustaining a surplus context while the government maintains strict controls on the foreign trade, he said.

Por su parte, los controles de capitales, a las importaciones ya los precios “continuarán complicando el ambiente de negocios”, advised the multilateral entity.

En cambio, destacó que las inversiones previstas para poner en marcha el gasoducto Néstor Kirchner “deberían mejorán las cuentas fiscales y la cuenta corriente al reducir el costo de las importaciones”.

On the other hand, he considered that “the exposure to the effects of international financial contagion is limited by the dependence on official external financing”, before the lack of access to voluntary debt markets since the beginning of 2018, when the country had to sign agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“This deceleration reflects both the efforts of the monetary authorities to control inflation and the secondary effects of an unauspicious world panorama,” he indicated.

Al respecto, consideró que “con el crecimiento algo lento de Estados Unidos y China se reduzca la demanda de exportaciones, mientras que el aumento de las tasas de interes estudiantes probabilite impléte que las condicions financiers seguirán siendo restrictivas”.

“Las projecciones indican que la lenitud del crecimiento mundial incidirá en los prices de los basic products, lo que debilitará la relación de intercambio de South América del”.

Según las previsions, “the regional investment will decrease this year as a consequence of the increase in the costs of the financing, the escasa confianza empresarial y la fuerte incertidumbre normative”.

De todos modos, el informe advirió que este panorama “presenta riesgos adversos: un crecimiento mundial más debil de lo previsto podría afectar significativo los prices de los basic products, lo que socavaría la actividad económica de los países exportadores de la region”.

A su vez, “a major hardening of the world’s financial conditions could also generate financial tensions in the most vulnerable economies”.

También, “the internal inflation in Latin America and the Caribbean could be more persistent in the forecast, which could raise long-term inflationary expectations”.

“En ese caso, para controlar la inflation de forma duradera quizá se requiera un considerable additional increment de las tasas de interes. Si bien esto puede ser necesario, podría frenar aún más el crecimiento a corto plazo”.

“In general terms, the projections indicate a stagnation of life standards in the first half of the decade of 2020, with an average growth of GDP per capita of 0.6% annually between 2020 and 2024,” he said.

This situation “podría hinder the fight against una amplia gama de problemas sociales y agravaría los obstacles que impiden un desarrollo sustainedido e inclusivo en América Latina y el Caribe”, concluded the Banco Mundial.
