The original objective would be to provide greater resistance to crops in the face of plagues and biological attacks, assuring the food supply of the United States in the event of natural disasters such as droughts and floods, but also as the result of a large-scale conflict. high impact terrorist actions.

Sin buscar llamar la atención, the program was created in 2016 with an initial financing of 45 million dollars from the Pentagon, specifically, from the EE.UU Advanced Research Projects Agency. (DARPA, por su sigla en inglés), located in the city of Arlington, Virginia.

At the front of the program is biologist and entomologist Blake Bextine, who joined DARPA as program manager in March 2016 and was designated to serve as interim subdirector of the Biological Technologies office in July 2020.

The initiative received its first criticism in October 2018, when a group of independent scientists and lawyers – belonging to different universities of the first line – published an article in the prestigious magazine Science.

Desde el gobierno de Estados Unidos responded that any accusation was absurd or that it was part of the recurring “Russian disinformation campaign”.

The accusation was produced in the framework of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxic Weapons (BTWC, por su sigla en inglés) that took place in Ginebra on September 9.

According to the complaint made by the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the United States Patent and Trademark Agency issued document No. 8.967.029 corresponding to an unmanned aerial vehicle (presumably a drone) for the propagation of infected insects with viral loads.

According to Moscow, in the framework of the cooperation agreement between Washington and Kiev, there will be more than 50 biological laboratories in Ukraine controlled by the Pentagon, located very close to the borders of the Russian Federation. En tanto que, according to the Chinese Chancellery, the United States controls 336 biolaboratorios in 30 countries.

According to the Government of Russia, since 2010, the Russian territories bordering Ukraine have registered an increase in the incidence of diseases and infections caused by bacteria and viruses that use animals and insects as vectors, such as brucellosis, hemorrhagic fever in Crimea.

The session of the BTWC in Ginebra ended without any resolution and with the American delegation only accepting the patent of the “unmanned aerial vehicle”, although this does not mean that it can be used for other purposes that are not strictly scientific. Initiatives like “Insect Allied” they could provoke a change in the conditions of the war in Ukraine.
